Men's Haircuts: Undercut, Textured Crop and Pompadour

Undercut: a clear contrast between the top and sides
An undercut combines short sides with a longer top. There can be a distinct break between the two sections, while a blended variation connects shorter hair gradually to the top. A fade describes how the transition is cut; not every undercut uses the same fade.
Bring a side-view reference photo as well as a front view. Discuss how short you want the sides, whether you want a parting, and whether you prefer to style the top forwards or backwards. Your hair’s growth direction and cowlicks also affect which version is comfortable to maintain.
Textured crop: a shorter top with separated strands
A crop usually has a shorter top and a fringe styled forwards. With a textured finish, individual strands remain visible rather than forming a smooth, slicked-back surface. The fringe can be short, straighter or more irregular; discuss this detail separately with your barber.
Start with a small amount of styling product, spread it between your palms, then shape the strands with your fingers. Ask your barber to demonstrate the amount that suits your hair. If you spend very little time styling in the morning, make that part of the haircut consultation.
Pompadour: height at the front and a swept-back top
A pompadour lifts the front section and curves it backwards. It needs enough length on top and regular styling. The sides can be short, or you can choose a softer variation shaped with scissors.
Ask your barber to demonstrate the drying direction and styling steps. At home, start with towel-dried hair, then dry and shape the top in the intended direction. Too much product can weigh the style down, so add it gradually.
